A Reminder about Harvey

Just wanted to remind everyone of David Harvey's incredibly useful website dedicated to his lectures on Marx's Capital. You can find it at:

He's been reading/teaching this book every year for 40 years, so it's safe to say that his interpretation may be based on the most extensive experience with the text. I have only listened to the first two lectures, but I find his language and teaching dry, but very clear -- staying true to the goal of understanding Marx on Marx's own terms.

Preliminary Info

Greetings!

I have set-up this low-maintenance blog for sharing thoughts and additional resources pertaining to the works of Karl Marx. This is not at all "my baby" and so I hope we will all use it to our own likings. This blog is only open to our group. If someone wants to change that, and make it more "open source," that's fine with me. There are a few people who want to join us for our weekly meetings but are unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. Therefore, I hope they can participate through this forum, and we can somehow keep them updated on our in-person Thursday discussions (not sure how best to do that, yet).

Our first meeting will be Thursday, January 15th in the first floor conference room from 4:15 - 5:45. I suggested arriving, having read the first chapter of Capital: Vol. 1, and have thus far heard no complaints or suggested amendments to that. It might also make our session more fruitful to come with questions you want addressed, etc.

Patrick and I briefly discussed sticking to one work, Capital: Vol. 1, throughout the whole semester. It's pretty substantial and we probably won't get through its entirety. However, if you want to get more or something else out of this reading group, please bring that up! Generally, everything is open for discussion or suggestions. Thanks, and looking forward to our semester of Marx.
